Conductor and violinist Aliisa Neige Barrière, Artist-in-Residence at the Turku Music Festival in 2024, has created a wonderful and intriguing programme for soloist, actor and orchestra in collaboration with her brother, dramaturge Aleksi Barrière!
The programme features music by woman composers: Louise Farrenc, Augusta Holmès, Outi Tarkiainen, and also Adriana Songs by Kaija Saariaho, performed by mezzosoprano Fleur Barron. Text written by Aleksi Barrière binds the programme together, with actor Akseli Kouki guiding the audience through the concert, explaining how women have been widely ignored in the history of music. The concert concludes with a dialogue between soloist and actor – the arias in Adriana Songs by Kaija Saariaho, the last of these sung to the son of Adriana in the original opera. Aliisa Neige Barrière conducts the Turku Philharmonic.
