Angelika Klas

Jere Pensikkala, Art House Turku

In this episode, Mike Valtonen, Communications and Production Coordinator of the Turku Music Festival, interviews Jere Pensikkala, CEO of Art House Turku. Since February 2024, the Turku Music Festival’s office has been located in Art House Turku. The move has led to a significant increase in cooperation between TMF, Art House Turku and other actors in Art House Turku, and there are already a number of joint projects. Petra Piiroinen, Aboagora

In this TMF episode, Mike Valtonen, Production and Communications Coordinator of the Turku Music Festival, interviews Petra Piiroinen of Aboagora. Aboagora is an event that tests the boundaries between science and art, bringing together academic, artistic and social perspectives every year since 2011. The event programme consists of interdisciplinary debates, performative sessions and various artistic interventions. The event provides a forum for researchers, artists and the general public at the inspiring intersection of different scientific and artistic disciplines. Aboagora is a long-term joint project of the University of Turku, the Turku University Foundation, Åbo Akademi, the Åbo Akademi Foundation and the Turku University of Applied Sciences Academy of Arts. The Turku Music Festival and Aboagora have an important annual collaboration.

Jasmin Kettunen, Otava-kahvilat

This time, Mike Valtonen, Production and Communications Coordinator of the Turku Music Festival, will be joined by Jasmin Kettunen, Restaurant Manager of Otava-kahvilat. Kettunen is known for her passionate approach to café culture and dining experiences, and has steered Otava-kahvilat in a bold new direction. Turku Music Festival and Otava-kahvilat work closely together on a weekly basis. The TMF attaches particular importance to cooperation across cross-functional boundaries, especially between local actors.

 

Tuuli Lempa & Andreas Helling

In this TMF episode, pianist Tuuli Lempa and cellist Andreas Helling interview each other in connection with October’s Aurora concert: An Evening of English Music. Mike Valtonen, Communications and Production Coordinator of the Turku Music Festival, will introduce you to the video. The video, like the duo, is bilingual! Tuuli and Andreas talk about how they came to play together and their connection to British composer Camden Reeves, whose work “Still above ground” will be performed at the Aurora concert in October. As its name suggests, the concert will focus on English composers.

Harri Sippel, Turku Ensemble

In this TMF episode, Mike Valtonen, Production and Communications Coordinator of the Turku Music Festival, interviews Harri Sippel, viola artist and chairman of the Turku Ensemble. The Turku Ensemble was born in 1984 when a group of musicians from Turku got together and decided to start playing together regularly. The idea at the time was to increase and enrich the supply of high quality chamber music in Turku. One of the key features of the association’s activities has always been the combination of different instruments and groups of instruments. Cooperation with various orchestras and ensembles and cross-artistic projects have also been part of the Turku Ensemble’s activities.

Kouki has been the artistic director of the theatre since 2014 and is known for his bold artistic vision.

In 2024, the Turku Music Festival will bring the concert experience Kouki’s “home” to Turku City Theatre on 19 August, with the concert entitled “Kouki’s Choice”.
