Violinist Laura Vikman performs as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher in addition to her orchestral career. She holds a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy at the University of the Arts Helsinki, and has also studied at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and the Cologne University of Music and Performing Arts. Before taking up his post as 2nd violin of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (FRSO) in 2013, Vikman served for ten years as the orchestra’s third concertmaster.
Vikman has won second prize at the Kuopio Violin Competition and the J. S. Bach Competition in Leipzig. In Florence, Vikman and pianist Marianna Shirinyan also won second prize at the Vittorio Gui Chamber Music Competition.
Laura Vikman has played as prima with the Tempera Quartet since 2003. The quartet has performed in Japan and throughout Europe and has recorded Jean Sibelius’ complete string quartet output for the BIS label.
Vikman has appeared as soloist with the Helsinki, Kuopio and Mikkeli City Orchestras, the FRSO, the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra, the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Belgium. As a chamber musician she has performed at many festivals in Finland and abroad.
Laura Vikman has been a violin lecturer at Tampere University of Applied Sciences since 2015. Prior to that, she worked as a lecturer at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki from 2007 to 2015.
Vikman plays on an H. Amati violin from 1591, owned by the Yleisradio Pension Foundation.
