Atte Kilpinen is a dance artist from Turku. Kilpinen joined the ranks of the Finnish National Ballet after graduating in 2015, where he has also worked as a choreographer’s assistant in addition to leading and soloist roles. From 2020 to 2022, Kilpinen has danced with the Hamburg State Ballet, where he was promoted to principal dancer by John Neumeier in 2021. In addition to Neuemeier, Kilpinen has danced in the works of numerous renowned choreographers, including Carolyn Carlson, Alexander Ekman, Marco Goecke, Kenneth Greve, Marjo Kuusela, Jirí Kylián, Tero Saarinen, Jorma Uotinen and others. He has also performed with various groups and theatres such as Susanna Leinonen Company, Pori Dance Company, Jojo – Oulu Dance Centre and Turku City Theatre, and Tero Saarinen Company.

In 2019 Kilpinen received the Outi and Jan Vapaavuori Foundation Award. In April 2020, Kilpinen’s choreography interpreting Sergei Prokofiev’s chamber music work Quintet Op. 39 will premiere at the Helsinki Music Centre, accompanied by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The solo work was broadcast on YLE later that year. In December 2020, the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, invited Kilpinen to perform his Finlandia interpretation at the Independence Day reception. In 2022, Kilpinen danced Tero Saarinen’s iconic HUNT solo piece. In March 2024, the premiere of his own choreography will be performed at Helsinki Music Centre, accompanied by the Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Kilpinen is currently the first soloist dancer in the Finnish National Ballet.
