Paavo Hyökki, one of the most respected choir conductors in Finland, graduated from the Sibelius Academy’s choir conducting class in 2013 with excellent grades. He has premiered dozens of choral works, conducted recordings and concerts for the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation (YLE), been successful in international choir competitions and performed as an invited artist at many music festivals at home and abroad.
Currently, Hyökki is the artistic director of the Tampereen Laulajat, the Chorus Cathedralis Aboensis Symphonic Choir (CCA) in Turku, Lain Huuto and the Finnish Male Choir Association’s representative choir Liiton Miehet, the latter two since their inception. He has also collaborated with the EMO Ensemble, Key Ensemble, Rajaton, Club for Five, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO), Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO) and Helsinki City Orchestra (HKO), among others.
Paavo Hyökki has served on the Board of the Finnish Choral Directors Association 2010-2016, as Artistic Director of the Finnish Male Choir Association 2015-2024 and as Artistic Director of Sulasol from 2024. He was also invited to be the Artistic Director of the Sulasol 100 Song and Instrument Festival in Jyväskylä in 2022. Hyökki is also an ensemble singer, artistic producer and a sought-after member of choir and vocal ensemble competition juries.
