Acclaimed particularly for his work with contemporary music, Danish cellist JAKOB KULLBERG appears regularly with leading orchestras worldwide. He is the dedicatee of the entire cello oeuvre of Danish composer Per Nørgård and of the cadenza in Kaija Saariaho’s cello concerto Notes on Light, and also of Concordia, written by Saariaho for him and Aliisa Neige Barrière.
Kullberg has recorded albums with the Bergen Philharmonic and the BBC Philharmonic under John Storgårds. He received the ‘Danish Grammy’, the P2-Prisen, for his concerto album Momentum, which was also nominated for the Gramophone Award. His most recent project is a recording of Schumann’s Cello Concerto and Rønsholdt’s Cello Concerto no. 2 with the Sinfonia Varsovia in 2024.
Kullberg regularly performs at the Huddersfield, Bergen, Aldeburgh and Warsaw Autumn festivals. He is a Professor of Cello at the Royal College of Music in London and gives masterclasses around Europe and in the USA. Recently he has expanded his horizons as a singer-cellist-songwriter on an album influenced by indie-pop, free jazz and contemporary art music.
