Aliisa Neige Barrière is one of Finland’s most interesting young conductors. Her broad-minded artistic approach drives her to seek out new performance practices and to experiment with new things in terms of programming and concert dramaturgy.
Barrière began her conducting studies with Sakari Oramo at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2019 and has since also studied with Jorma Panula, Atso Almila and Luke Dollman.
She has worked as a conductor’s assistant with Esa-Pekka Salonen, Susanna Mälkki, Sakari Oramo, Pekka Kuusisto, Dalia Stasevska and Ernest Martínez-Izquierdo. In 2021, she took up a two-year position as Young Conductor-in-Residence with the Aarhus Sinfonietta in Denmark.
Barrière has appeared with numerous Finnish orchestras, having made her début with the Joensuu City Orchestra in 2020. She has since conducted the Tampere Filharmonia, the Jyväskylä Sinfonia and the Vaasa City Orchestra. In the 2022–2023 season, she appeared for the first time with the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, the Oulu Sinfonia, the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia Lahti, the Kymi Sinfonietta, the BIT20 Ensemble and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
Apart from her conducting career, Barrière performs actively as a violinist and chamber musicians. The is the founding member of a number of ensembles, such as the Hindsgavl Nordic Chamber Orchestra in Denmark and the contemporary music groups Ensemble Temporum and Ensemble +47 in Norway.
