Turku Court of Appeal – the oldest court of appeal in Finland, founded in 1623 – has seen centuries of power shifts, judicial decisions and social changes. Now this historic setting, the Akatemiatalo, which has been home to the Court of Appeal since 1830, takes on a new role as the setting for a work that delves into the heart of power and democracy.
Power and the Powerless is a theatrical concert with two singers, a pianist and an actor, where power and democracy meet through music. In the performance, the artists give voice to an issue that concerns us all: the state of democracy and its future. What has been the relationship between artists and those in power over the years? What is power in art? These questions will be considered in the Court of Appeal, in an environment where power has been exercised and weighed for centuries. It will be an intense, thought-provoking and above all unforgettable evening.
Come and experience how history, music and social reflection come together in a unique way – in the midst of the history of power.
