In the twilight of February, in the dead of winter, we invite you to stop and take a breath. The ancient archways of the Turku Cathedral and the deep, soulful sound of the solo cello combine to create a unique opportunity to be present in the moment.
The concert offers a space where time slows down and the music leads the listener away from everyday worries. The works on the programme take you on a journey from the past to the present, from the harmony of the Baroque to the boldness of modern music.
The soloist of the evening is cellist Sonja Rummukainen. Rummukainen strives to achieve the same evocative and melodious sound from her cello that she herself fell in love with when she first heard the instrument at the East Helsinki Music Institute at the age of six. With such a sound you can express emotions and evoke them in others even more accurately than with words, because the cello is the instrument closest to the human voice.
The dimness of the lights, the acoustics of the cathedral and the intimate sound of the solo cello create a place where you can let go for a moment and breathe freely. Come, sit down on a wooden bench and let the music fill your mind. During this concert, you are allowed to just be.
The concert is a part of Music in the Cathedral! week.
