Sirja Nironen is a versatile cellist who enjoys performing both as a soloist and in various ensembles. She has performed as soloist with the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Oulu Symphony Orchestra and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and the Trondheim Symphony and Opera Orchestra. Nironen has premiered several works, including cello concertos by Matilda Seppälä, Elisar Riddelin and Sauli Zinovjev. Nironen, who has been involved in the Cultural Association Ääninen since 2023, will be the artistic designer of the 2025 Kaivos Festival together with dancer-choreographer Katariina Vähäkallio and film director Niko Väistö.
Nironen also enjoys music in her free time. Her favourites include the work of Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds, German classical and electronic musician Nils Frahm and Canadian composer Mike Miloshi’s Rhye project. Opera, gym, sauna, open air, improvisation, vintage, dark roast coffee and fiery food are also part of Nironen’s life. Nironen also adds tasteless humour and suitably blameless people to the list.
