Actor-singer Samuli Edelmann is one of Finland’s best-selling male artists of all time.
Edelmann started his career as an actor, but became a popular singer in the early 90s with his single “Pienestä kii”. This was followed by the Eurovision song “Peggy”, which is still a favourite with Finns. In 1994, the duet with Sani “Tuhat yötä” was one of the most successful songs of the year. Other well-known songs by Edelmann include (Sinä olet) Aurinko, Kaikki tahtoo, Karavaanari, Juhlat alkakoon, Jos sä tahdot niin, Nukkumatti, Tähtipölyä and Ei mitään hätää.
Edelmann has duetted with some of the biggest names in Finland, including Mikko Kuustonen, Laura Närhi, Cata Mansikka-Aho, Mari Rantasila and Irina Björklund.
On a more ambitious note, Edelmann has collaborated with his father Toni Edelmann on the album Vaiheet, where they composed music to texts by Hesse, Goethe, Shakespeare and Denisov. Edelmann’s specialities also include the successful Virsiä Trilogy.
Edelman has been nominated for a Jussi Award for his performances in the films Häijyt, Minä ja Morrison, Rock and Roll Never Dies, Levottomat and Vares. He also made his international debut in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011.
During his career, Edelmann has won three Emma Awards. Edelmann is also known to Finns as a voice actor. He is best known for his voice as Shrek and Moominvalley’s Snork.
