MEERI PULAKKA

Soprano Meeri Pulakka is often praised for her stylish, musical, and moving interpretations across chamber music, solo repertoire, and opera. Her versatile repertoire spans from baroque to contemporary music. Pulakka has appeared as a soloist with numerous Finnish orchestras, including the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, under conductors such as Juha Kangas, Sakari Oramo, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and John Storgårds. Her operatic roles include the title role in Kaija Saariaho’s Émilie, Mozart’s Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito), Handel’s Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), and Menotti’s Madame Euterpova (Help! Help! The Globolinks). She performed the role of the Girl in Riikka Talvitie’s award-winning radio opera Kylmän maan kuningatar, recipient of the Prix Italia. Pulakka frequently performs contemporary and chamber music at festivals and concert series, with recent appearances including Kaustinen Chamber Music Week, Kuhmo Chamber Music, Musica nova Helsinki, Kangasala Classic, and the Kokonainen Festival.

Pulakka holds a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and studied in the opera class at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. She gave her debut recital focused on contemporary repertoire in the Young Artists of Winter concert series at Helsinki Music Centre in January 2019. In autumn 2024, she began doctoral studies in the DocMus Doctoral School at the Sibelius Academy, aiming for an artistic doctorate in music. Her work has recently been supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Finnish Music Foundation (MES), and the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation.
