Cellist Markus Hohti is at home with new music, at chamber music festivals, at the baroque cello and on the jazz club stage. Recently, he has been particularly interested in electroacoustic music and the performance of classical romantic repertoire on period instruments. Markus performs actively as a soloist, chamber musician and with his ensembles defunensemble and Rödberg Trio (Antti Tikkanen, Markus Hohti, Joonas Ahonen). As a chamber musician, he has performed at the Salzburger Biennale, Lucerne Festival, Our Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Zurich Tonhalle and Berlin Philharmonic, among others.
The prestigious and traditional Lucerne Festival elected Markus Hohd as Contemporary Leader for a five-year term from 2024. Markus Hohti is also Artistic Director of the Kino Soi! concert series together with Petja Kainulainen, Liina-Mari Raivola and Hanna Hohti. Since autumn 2014 Markus has been a lecturer of cello at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
