Kuura Klaavu (b. 2003) is a musician, writer and multidisciplinary artist whose music moves at the intersection of film, storytelling and contemporary concert music. Klaavu is known for a distinctive approach to musical storytelling that combines emotional expression with a sensitive awareness of narrative.

“Create worlds, not just music – I am not interested in sound in a mathematical sense. I am interested in people and in the way a familiar melody can make you remember your childhood. In how a particular poem can move you to tears; in something that goes deeper than the surface.”

Kuura graduated as a music technologist from the Turku Conservatory. Klaavu’s compositions have been performed at Finnish cultural events and festivals, including Crusell Week, the Sinetä Music Festival and the Pianoaura Festival. In 2026, Klaavu’s latest commissioned work, Siipirikko, for flute, organ and birdsong, was premiered as part of the ADAMA26 cultural series. In November, Klaavu’s latest work for harp will be performed at Wien Modern, one of the world’s largest contemporary music festivals. Kuura is currently studying composition at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.

In addition to concert music, Klaavu has composed music for short films and animations that have been presented at international festivals in Europe and the United States. Klaavu’s music for the film The World Stood Still has been presented in Poland, Greece, Germany, Denmark, Canada and the United States. Klaavu has also collaborated internationally with Miami University on film production projects.
