Alma Meretoja (b. 2007) is a Turku-based composer and pianist. In spring 2026, she completed her advanced studies in piano and composition at the Turku Conservatory under the guidance of Maria Männikö and Ilari Hongisto. In August, she began studying composition at the Sibelius Academy.
Meretoja’s imaginative musical language combines, with a postmodern openness, elements such as impressionistic tonal colours and the expressive power of late Romanticism. Her works have been performed at numerous events and have also achieved success in competitions, winning first prize in the Turku Conservatory Composition Competition in 2025 and the Zett Emm Open Composition Competition in Cologne in 2026. In April 2026, Meretoja’s first piano concerto, Ikara, was premiered, with the composer herself appearing as the soloist.
Meretoja’s works are characterised by organic, flowing and imaginative forms, underscored by a melancholic tone. In the Ateljee Hall, they form an immersive whole in which the music flows continuously from one piece to the next. The composer performs her own works together with pianist Maria Männikö and flautist Johanna Suvenmetsä.
