Eric-Olof Söderström completed his cantor-organist degree at the Sibelius Academy in 1976, after which he continued his studies in the general department, including choral conducting, under Harald Andersen, Eric Ericsson, and Peter Erdelyi. Söderström completed his diploma in choral conducting in 1985. As part of his diploma studies, he founded Suomalainen Kamarikuoro (the Finnish Chamber Choir), which won the EBU’s Let the People Sing Chamber Choir Competition in 1985.
Söderström continued his studies in Jorma Panula’s conducting class. He completed his diploma in orchestral conducting in 1988. Söderström has served as choirmaster at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Finnish National Opera. As artistic director, he has worked with the Radio Chamber Choir and the Mikkeli city orchestra.
Söderström was guest conductor of the Eric Ericsson Chamber Choir in Stockholm in 2006–2007. Söderström served as cantor and music director of the Swedish Cathedral Parish in Porvoo from 2006 to 2025.
