Emma Kajander is a Finnish soprano. She studied singing with Irina Gavrilovic and graduated from the Sibelius Academy with Outi Kähkönen. She also graduated from the Helsinki Conservatory of Music under Hanna-Leena Haapamäki.
She has performed in major roles both at home and abroad. She has built her stage career in the roles of Christine Daaé, in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s The Phantom of the Opera (Finnish National Opera, 2024), Papagena, in W. A. Mozart in The Magic Flute (Sibelius Academy, 2022), Valencienne in Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow (Helsinki Conservatory, 2022).
Kajander’s competition successes include: winning the Havets Röst Competition 2023, finalist in the Timo Mustakallio Competition 2023, Caj Ehrstedt Prize for outstanding interpretation of Schubert, finalist in the Helsinki Lied Competition 2021 (under 25 years old).
Kajander has complemented her skills with several masterclasses, where she has been taught by top professionals such as Karita Mattila, Camilla Nylund, Graham Johnson and Malcolm Martineau.
Kajander has long experience as a member of choirs and ensembles. She has been a member of the Savonlinna Opera Festival Choir and the Olaus Petri Professional Choir. When she was young, she was a member of the Finnish National Opera’s Young Music Enthusiasts musical group.
Kajander has furthered her instrumental studies on piano, orchestral violin and violin, taking lessons from Stella Michelsson, Alf Almark and Sofia Lindroos.
