Christopher Knopp is a versatile young Canadian pianist, known for his genuine interaction and polished technique, whose international career is about to take off. After accompanying the Mirjam Helin Song Competition, he has been performing concerts with his duo partner Jingjing Xu in the summer of 2024, and in November he began his residency at the Accademia del Maggio in Florence.
Knopp’s training began as a solo pianist, but he has worked as a collaborative pianist since the age of 12, performing regularly in church services and local festivals. When he moved to Montreal in 2017, Christopher was inspired by his primary mentor Michael McMahon to study opera and art song, which led to his participation in the first realization of the prestigious Résidence en Accompagnement Vocale de McGill et de l’Université de Montréal. Since then, he has worked with leading masters in the field, including Graham Johnson, James Vaughan, Helmut Deutsch, John Churchwell, Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles and Jeff Cohen.
As a solo pianist, Christoher won fourth prize at the Concours Prix D’Europe in 2022 and has performed concertos by Mozart, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff and Saint-Saëns. He also regularly collaborates as a chamber musician and is passionate about supporting music as an art form, commissioning works for solo piano and Lied duet from young composers.
