Cellomania is a duo formed by Finnish top cellists Jaani Helander and Lukas Stasevskij, who, in addition to performing their own compositions, play covers ranging from pop and rock music to video game and film music. Their energetic performances have captivated audiences since 2019, when the friends, who originally met at the Sibelius Academy, decided to test the boundaries of their cellos and musical skills by arranging music they love across genres. The duo’s debut performance took place in the summer of 2020 on the Allas Sea Pool stage in Helsinki, and their first album Mania Unleashed was released the following year.
In the autumn of 2022, Cellomania opened the Nordic Council’s award ceremony at the Helsinki Music Centre with Helander’s commissioned composition Festive Anthem, a performance that was televised across all Nordic countries. In the spring of 2023, Cellomania released the single Towards the New Horizon, where the cellos combine with the Ginette played by Petteri Mäkiniemi and the electronic drums and soundscapes of Tuomas Ahva. Towards the end of 2023, the duo returned to their acoustic roots with the single Spectrum of Light.
Cellomania’s music has been streamed nearly 300,000 times on Spotify. The duo performed their largest concert to date at Tampere Hall on May 4, 2024, receiving a standing ovation. In August 2024, Cellomania appeared at the Mikkeli Music Festival during Lukas Stasevskij’s The Cellist of War book event.
