Cellist Andreas Helling was admitted to the Turku Conservatory at the age of 6 to study cello. After four years of studying with Matti Vuoristo, he continued his studies with Timo Hanhinen. In 1992 he moved to Stockholm to study at the Royal Academy of Music under Ola Karlsson. A year later he returned to Finland to study, now at the Sibelius Academy, where he studied with Martti Rousi, Victoria Yagling and Raimo Sariola.
In 2002, Helling won third prize at the Turku Cello Competition and the highest possible score at the Academy. In 2009 he played his debut recital at the Sibelius Academy. He has performed as an orchestral soloist and in recitals in Sweden, France, Italy, Russia, Poland, Moldavia, England and Austria.
Helling has participated in numerous master courses in cello and chamber music and is also an active chamber musician in many ensembles. Since 2002 he has been the principal cello of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also taught at the Turku University of Applied Sciences and the Naantali Music Institute.
