Åbo Damkör rf was founded in 1948 by women interested in singing, some of whom had previously sung in Arbetets Vänners Damkör. Today, Åbo Damkör consists of just over 30 singers between the ages of 20 and 65.
ÅD is a choir that enjoys exploring new ideas both stylistically and across different musical periods. The choir aims to broaden its horizons through everything from jazz to contemporary choral music and pop music, as well as traditional songs and ballads in between. Åbo Damkör also enjoys collaborating with other choirs and has many fond memories of joint projects with choirs from different regions. The atmosphere within the choir is excellent, and the friendships between singers are an important part of choir life. In recent years, the choir’s concerts have increasingly been built around thematic projects.
For 75 years, the choir’s activities have also carried a social dimension — not only for its own members. It has been important for the choir to bring joy to people who may not have the opportunity to attend concerts, and the choir has therefore visited care homes and participated in charity projects. Åbo Damkör also occasionally takes part in services organised by the Swedish-speaking parish of Turku.
Åbo Damkör is conducted by Larissa Krook.
