Step into Turku Castle’s King’s Hall for an unforgettable journey of sound, where the most soulful tones of Finnish and Japanese music meet. Eija Kankaanranta and Aaro Haavisto’s concert will take you across eras and cultures, weaving you and the music into a continuum. In the King’s Hall, medieval Bridgettine music is interwoven with the Aunus Karelian kantele tradition, contemporary kantele music meets the traditional shakuhachi music of the Ueda ryū school and classical jiuta singing is given a kantele accompaniment.
The evening’s programme will be preceded by a kantele meditation – a moment of pause and inner peace. A short breathing exercise will lead you into meditation, where improvisation inspired by a composition by Juhani Nuorvala will soothe your mind. You can listen while sitting, lie down and relax or join in the playing yourself on the 5-string kantele. At the end of the meditation, you can enjoy Japanese tea to complete the experience for all the senses. Please note that there is a separate ticket for meditation.
Come and listen, experience and breathe music that connects the East and the West, the past and the present.
