Ensemble Gamut!, conducted by Aino Peltomaa has quickly emerged as one of Finland’s most interesting ensembles that move fluidly between genres. The ensemble has created its unique sound by combining elements of medieval music, Finnish folk songs, improvisation, original compositions and electronic soundscapes.

In FLOS – Arctic Flowers, Vappu Rossi’s live large-scale drawing and Ensemble Gamut!’s music are interwoven into a multi-artistic whole. Sound artist Tuomas Norvio produces real-time spatialised, manipulated sound from Ross’s live drawings, giving the works the audible sound of a human ear. In this way, the arctic flowers seem to come to life in real time, surrounding the audience, reacting to the current situation and the musical soundscape we have created together.

In addition to the earliest compositions preserved in Finland, Aino Peltomaa’s compositions and lyrics about arctic flowers bring together the intangible and tangible eras of our habitat, our home. Already lost, rediscovered. Rescued, destroyed, lost, found, recovered.

Paimio Sanatorium, a masterpiece of architecture and history, provides a unique and evocative setting for the concert. There, as light and sound play, the fading memories of the Arctic flowers and their fleeting beauty will find a voice – and you will have the chance to hear and see it all.

Come, let the FLOS concert transport you to the fragility of nature, the power of art and the human part in it all.
