Robert Fleitz is a pianist and composer. He views the concert hall as a space for illuminating what has been overlooked or misunderstood. He creates idiosyncratic performance experiences, embracing rigor and humor in equal measure. As a composer, Robert’s current interests include processes of decay, queer boredom, silliness, and Catholic iconography. Notable commissions and performances include the Metropolis Ensemble (NYC), Jumblies Theatre Company (Toronto), the Druskomanija Festival (Lithuania), Kompass Ensemble (Germany), Festival Osmose (Belgium), and Hilary Easton Dance Company (NYC).
Transdiciplinary collaboration is an essential part of his creative practice, recent ongoing collaborations including work with Matilda Seppälä, Stephen Webb, and Julie Zhu.
He has studied at the Juilliard School and the Latvian Music Academy, and is currently a doctoral researcher at the Sibelius Academy. Notable composition mentors include Eric Wubbels, Jānis Petraškevičs, and Hilary Easton. He also makes YouTube video essays for tonebase Piano which have reached millions of viewers.
