HENRIK SANDÅS QUINTET

Henrik Sandås is a bandoneon artist and arranger whose repertoire includes Argentinian tango and tango nuevo, baroque music, new art music and improvisation. Sandås is recognised as a sensitive and soulful musician whose evocative style has captivated audiences in Europe and South America.

The Henrik Sandås Quintet has the same composition as Astor Piazzolla’s quintet, for whom he composed most of his music. The ensemble’s musicians are all at the top of their game. Maija Linkola, a violinist with the Finnish National Opera Orchestra, is an experienced and highly regarded chamber and orchestral musician whose playing can be heard on numerous recordings and radio recordings. Otto Porkkala is one of the most expressive electric guitarists of his generation. Pianist Matleena Koivusaari is a top talent currently pursuing her doctorate at the Sibelius Academy. Eero Ignatius, who plays double bass in the Helsinki City Orchestra, is also a regular member of Avanti! and tours around Finland as bassist of the Waltteri Torikka Trio.
