The choir began its activities in 1984 and quickly rose to the forefront of classical music in Finland by winning the prestigious Let the Peoples Sing competition. The choir was active until the early 1990s, when Eric-Olof Söderström was appointed choir master of the Finnish National Opera.
The choir resumed its activities in 2008. After a few quiet years, Suomalainen Kamarikuoro has risen to a high level of performance. The choir’s board has set a stable direction for its activities and set its ambitions high.
