Violinist Philip Zuckerman has been praised by audiences and critics for his “enchanting tone,” “technical brilliance,” and “charisma” (Badische Zeitung).
Philip has performed in venues such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Peter Jay Sharp Theater, South Bank Centre in London, Bergen’s Grieg Hall, Kurhaus Baden-Baden, Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr, and Great Hall and Grünewald Hall in Stockholm Concert Hall. He has also performed with a multitude of orchestras internationally including Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Nova and Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto.
Chamber music holds a special place in Philip’s life, and he has appeared at Ozawa Academy’s residency at Tanglewood Music Festival, Aurora Chamber Music Festival and Usedom Music Festival, and given recitals in Stockholm Concert Hall’s Grünewald Hall, Uppsala Konsert & Kongress, Palladium in Malmö, and on Perlman Music Program’s Stires-Stark Recital Series. He has appeared in concert with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, as well as members of the Cleveland, Cavani, and Vertavo string quartets. Philip’s musicianship has been broadcasted on TV and radio, among other things, in performances of Brahms Piano Quartets on Medici.tv and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Masterclass Series, as well as on MPBN’s Morning Classical Music with Suzanne Nanze.
Philip has received prizes and grants from, among others, the American Scandinavian Society and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, and won Padova International Music Competition in 2018. He has placed first in the violin division of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s National Auditions on numerous occasions and was also a winner of Bergen Philharmonic’s Soloist Competition, “De Unges Konsert” in 2017.
In recent years, Philip has been in demand as an orchestral leader in orchestras in Sweden and abroad and served as temporary 1st Concertmaster of the Bochumer Symphoniker during the 2018-19 season. Philip’s great musical inspirations are Catherine Cho and Itzhak Perlman, with whom he studied at The Juilliard School for nine years. Past teachers also include Natasha Beshulya, Per Enoksson, and Donald Weilerstein. He currently works with Eszter Haffner.
Philip plays on a fine French violin on generous loan from the private collection of Dr. Peter Hauber, Berlin.
