Baritone Waltteri Torikka and pianist Marko Hilpo perform some of Oskar Merikanto’s most popular solo songs together with unpublished rarities.

Merikanto’s greatest hits, universally known and loved in Finland, combine with seldom-heard gems for an hour of musical enjoyment. Waltteri Torikka and Marko Hilpo combed through the composer’s entire output of about 160 songs to devise a programme that showcases the diversity of Finland’s leading composer of classical solo songs.

Waltteri Torikka and Marko Hilpo have collaborated for a decade, giving Lied recitals around Finland and performing with various orchestras. An album of Merikanto songs recorded by them is scheduled for release in spring 2024.
