Maria Ylipää & Friends present a Christmas concert cocktail titled Star of Wonder, with songs old and new from Finland and further afield – spanning a wide range of styles as is the habit with this ensemble. The programme includes selections in Finnish, Swedish and English, about Christmas and beyond.
Maria Ylipää, known as a wide-ranging actress and singer with a wonderful voice, is joined in this programme by special guest Alexander Lycke from Sweden, one of Europe’s brightest stars of musical theatre. He has previously appeared in Finland for instance in the musical Chess at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki and in the musicals Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Misérables at the Swedish Theatre in Turku. Sweden Rock Magazine named him Sweden’s best singer in 2016.
Maria and Alexander perform numerous Christmas favourites, accompanied by genre-busting instrumental virtuosos Marzi Nyman (guitar), Niko Kumpuvaara (accordion) and Ville Herrala (double bass).
