South African soprano Pretty Yende arrives from Paris Opera to support the ailing Nadine Sierra!
Pretty Yende has made an astonishing rise from her small hometown of Piet Retief to the top of the opera world. Since her debut at the Latvian National Theatre as Micaëla in Carmen, she has been seen in almost every major opera house, including last season as La Traviata’s Violetta at the Vienna and Bavarian State Operas, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and Palermo’s Teatro Massimo. In addition to Vienna, the upcoming season will include visits to London’s Royal Opera House, Naples’ Teatro di San Carlo and Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, as well as a debut as soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin as an interpreter of Strauss’ songs.
Yende was the first singer in the history of the 2010 Belvedere Competition to win the highest prize in any category, followed by the 2011 Operalia Competition. Her second solo album, Dreams (Sony Classical, 2017), was praised by Opera Now magazine, among others, as “a delightful instrument with a youthful vibrancy of passion and a wonderfully assured technique”.
Tickets purchased for Nadine Sierra’s concert on 18 August 2022 are valid as such for Pretty Yende. The deadline to apply for credits is 30.8.2022.
Tickets purchased for the recital in 2020 will not be honoured for the eventual rescheduled recitals as is.
