The most spine-tingling concert of the summer offers recent creations performed at the lovely Art Chapel in Hirvensalo. Flutterings for flute and kantele by Maija Hynninen, premiered at this concert, refers to the sound of tiny wings captured in a poem by Ina Coolbrith, while Élégie written by Lauri Mäntysaari for accordionist Mikko Luoma is a reflection of the flickering flames in the shocking fire of Notre Dame Cathedral. Hynninen’s work and Kaija Saariaho’s duo Light still and moving are performed by Saariaho’s trusted musicians Camilla Hoitenga and Eija Kankaanranta. And to top it all off, the compelling solo work Sanasi, kiveen uponneet [Your words, sunk in stone] Outi Tarkiainen, a composer rapidly gaining international recognition, is performed by Senja Rummukainen, winner of the Turku Cello Competition in 2014.
