Originally scheduled for 2020, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ cult work “Eight Songs for a Mad King” will finally be performed in Turku on Friday 19 August at 19:00 in Sigyn Hall.
The role of the king will be interpreted by American baritone Thomas Florio. The libretto is by Randolph Stown and is based on texts by King George III. The work will be performed in English. The first part of the concert will feature music from the kings’ courts, performed by Jukka Rautasalo, Heidi Peltoniemi and Eero Palviainen. The conductor is the acclaimed Petri Sakari.
