The Bravade Quartet takes its listeners on a journey from medieval monasteries to the present day. Specialising in Renaissance recorder, the quartet’s core repertoire is approached from the perspective of women composers, exploring the music of Vittoria Aleotti and Maddalena Casulana alongside Hildegard of Bingen. The programme also includes works for recorder by contemporary women composers such as the Finnish Lotta Wennäkoski and the Greek Calliope Tsoupaki. The concert will also feature a moving work by another contemporary Greek composer, Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri, Still Life, which deals with the horrors of the Holocaust during the Second World War.
