XABIER ANDUAGA

Spanish lyrical tenor XABIER ANDUAGA (b. 1995) has rapidly become one of the most prominent proponents of his voice type in his generation. At the Francisco Viñas singing competition in the 2016–2017 season, he was awarded five prizes, including a prize for the best interpretation of zarzuela. Having made his opera début as Ramiro in La cenerentola in Bilbao and Pesaro in the 2016–2017 season, he has gone on to appear at major opera houses, for instance as Roberto Abbado in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and as Belfiore in Il viaggio a Reims at the Musikverein in Vienna.

Anduaga sang in a choir as a child and began his music studies at the Musikene Institute in the Basque Country. He is currently studying with Elena Barbé. In 2019, he won 1st prize and the Placido Domingo Zarzuela Prize at the Operalia competition. His recent opera roles include Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Paris, Beijing, Parma and Rouen and Gennaro in Lucrezia Borgia at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo.
