TUULIA YLÖNEN

TUULIA YLÖNEN studied clarinet with Osmo Vänskä, Reijo Koskinen, Kari Kriikku and Charles Neidlich, and with Jon McCaw and Michael Collins in London. She has attended masterclasses given by Thomas Friedl, György Kurtag, Ralf Gothóni and others. She completed her clarinet diploma with excellent marks at the Sibelius Academy in 1995 and gave her début recital one year later.

Ylönen has performed chamber music at music festivals in Kuhmo, Naantali, Korsholma, Kemiö and Uusikaupunki in Finland, and in several other European countries, e.g. at the Lockenhaus music festival in Austria. She is an active performer of new Finnish music and has played with ensembles such as the Zagros Ensemble.

Ylönen played Principal Clarinet with Sinfonia Lahti from 2003 to 2005, and since 2005 she has played Alternating Principal Clarinet with the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera. She also teaches clarinet at the Sibelius Academy.
