Riitta Monto is Professor of Practice at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Turku and a media expert. She is a former editor-in-chief of the Turun Sanomat newspaper and has her own media and communications agency, Dicto.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Turku conferred an honorary doctorate on Riitta Monto in 2021 for her merits in promoting tolerance and plurality in public debate.
