OLAVI LOUHIVUORI

OLAVI LOUHIVUORI (b. 1981) grew up in Jyväskylä in a musical family of seven where everyone played an instrument: Olavi played the violin, cello and piano. He took up the drums at the age of nine, and by the early 2000s he was playing with several jazz ensembles such as the Joona Toivanen Trio and the Jyväskylä Junior Big Band.

Louhivuori studied with Jukkis Uotila at the Sibelius Academyt from 2002. He has won the Young Nordic Jazz Groups competition three times (Joona Toivanen Trio 2000, Ilmiliekki Quartet 2002, Sun Trio 2006) and toured the USA, Australia, Asia and Europe.

In recent years, he has toured with the Tomasz Stanko Quintet. He has also appeared with internationally distinguished artists such as Lee Konitz, Anthony Braxton, Marilyn Crispell and Susanne Abbuehl. In Finland, he has also played with the UMO Jazz Orchestran and Piirpauke.
