MAXIM EMELYANYCHEV

Maxim Emelyanychev, born in 1988 to a family of musicians in Nizhny Novgorod, studied conducting and piano there and later under Gennady Rozhdestvensky at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He debuted in conducting at age 12 and soon led various international baroque and symphonic orchestras in Russia.

In 2013, he became Principal Conductor of Il Pomo d’Oro and debuted with Mozart’s Don Giovanni in 2014. From 2016, he embarked on major tours and debuts with renowned orchestras across Europe. In 2017/18, he debuted with several prestigious orchestras, leading to his appointment as Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2019.

During 2018/19, Emelyanychev debuted with orchestras such as the Antwerpen Symphony and Tokyo Symphony, while touring Asia and the Middle East with Il Pomo d’Oro and Joyce DiDonato. In 2019, his contract with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra was extended until 2025. He also debuted in major opera institutions and with notable orchestras such as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Seattle Symphony for his US debut.

In 2020/21, he conducted notable and prestigious orchestras and debuted with the Orchestre de Paris and Atlanta Symphony. Despite pandemic disruptions, he returned to perform at events like the BBC Proms. In 2021/22, he toured with Il Pomo d’Oro and debuted with orchestras like the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

Highlights of his 2022/23 season include debuts with the Berliner Philharmoniker and a US tour. In 2023/24, Emelyanychev will debut with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and others, while returning to conduct prominent orchestras like the Royal Concertgebouw.

Recipient of numerous awards, including the Golden Mask in 2013, the Young Talent Award 2019 from the Critics’ Circle and the international Opera Award in the Newcomer category in 2019, Emelyanychev continues to be a celebrated conductor and musician on the international stage.
