Jouko Laivuori is known as a versatile pianist who has been a member of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1984. Laivuori began his piano studies in Tampere and graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 1984. He gave his well-received debut concert in Helsinki in 1985 and was pianist with the Finnish National Ballet from 1985 to 1987.

Laivuori is known as an active performer of new music and is one of the founding members of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, established in 1983. He has premiered music by many Finnish composers, including Eero Hämeenniemi, Magnus Lindberg and Kirmo Lintinen, and recorded Paavo Heininen’s famous piano sonata.

For the past decade, Laivuori has concentrated on early music and harpsichord playing. In his youth, he was a studio musician on many recordings of light music and gospel bands.
