Violinist ESSI HÖGLUND (b. 1997), born in Kotka, has appeared as soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Kammerphilharmonie Bad Nauheim and the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. She has also performed chamber music at various festivals, including the Turku Music Festival, the Crusell Week, the Helsinki Festival, Encuentro de Santander, Allegro Vivo, Nordischer Klang and the Helsinki Chamber Music Festival, where she was named Young Artist of the Year 2018. She has held the position of leader with a number of prominent Finnish orchestras.
Höglund studied with Merle Kaadu at the Kotka regional music institute, with Réka Szilvay at the Junior Department of the Sibelius Academy and with Tero Latvala for her Master’s degree. She has had success in competitions, including 2nd prize at the Kuopio and Jyväskylä Violin Competitions and 3rd prize and Best Interpretation of Obligatory Work at the Tallinn Young Musician competition. Her disc of music by Uuno Klami, released on Alba Records in 2020, was highly acclaimed.
