Eriikka Nylund began her violin studies at the age of 5 in her hometown of Kotka. Ten years later, she changed to the viola and started studying at the Sibelius Academy, where her teacher was Teemu Kupiainen. She continued his studies in Salzburg and Basel with Thomas Riebl and Hatto Beyerle. Eriikka was a member of the string quartet Meta4 from 2000-2006, during which time the quartet won first prize at the Dimitri Shostakovits Competition in Moscow. In 2001 she won first prize at the Nordic Viola Competition in Helsinki. Since 2007 Eriikka has worked as a solo violinist with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed frequently as soloist of the orchestra, premiering many works. Last season Eriikka was solo violinist with the Finnish National Opera. She has also been a regular soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Eriikka is an active orchestral and chamber musician and has performed at numerous festivals in the Nordic countries and around the world. Her instrument is the Cerruti viola, owned by the Järnåker Foundation.
