BELCEA QUARTET

Based in the UK, the BELCEA QUARTET was established at the Royal College of Music in London in 1994. They are Artist-in-Residence at the Pierre Boulez Concert Hall in Berlin and at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Their extensive discography includes recordings of the complete string quartets of Britten, Bartók and Beethoven, which have been acclaimed by critics and won prominent international awards.

The members of the quartet hail from Romania, Poland and France, and this diversity of backgrounds can be seen in their repertoire. The Belcea Quartet have performed world premieres of works such as Twisted Blues with Twisted Ballad (2010) and Contusion (2014) by Mark-Anthony Turnage, Lucid dreams (2015) by Thomas Larcher, String Quartet no. 4 (2016) by Krzysztof Penderecki and String Quartet no. 3 by Joseph Phibbs, but they are equally at home with the great works of the Classical and Romantic periods. Their unprejudiced approach to music bears fruit in a unique, elegant and refined reading of the core string quartet repertoire.
